Sustainable energy, specifically renewable energy or green energy represents the type of energy source that can be replenished and is essentially inexhaustible. This sphere of energy includes solar energy (solar panels and photovoltaic windows), wind energy (wind turbines/wind farms), some forms of water (hydro) power and biomass fuels. Sustainable or renewable energy is a new and popular study field that focuses on finding alternative energy sources without compromising the energy needs of future generations, while preserving the health of the natural environment. Programmes in sustainable energy join elements of engineering, electronics, construction and environmental sciences.

Sub-divisions of sustainable energy include: solar energy, wind energy, geothermal energy, ocean energy, biomass energy, hydroelectric power.

Class curricula offer students information on topics such as: fundaments of advanced energy conversion, global warming science, energy economics and policy, entrepreneurship in renewable energy. Programmes in sustainable energy offer students technical competences and the ability to articulate environmental sustainability for different energy supply systems. Courses also help them familiarise with policy and economics in the energy sector, knowledge of energy markets and business.

Graduates may find job opportunities in a wide range of areas, including: project consultancy, urban planning, technical advice, energy trading. Sustainable energy graduates usually follow careers as energy consultants, energy auditors, wind power engineers, and more.
