Ecology is the synthesis bio-science of interaction between organisms, plants and the environment in which they live, both biotic and abiotic. It analyses the structure, function and productivity of the supra-individual bio-systems, the populations and the mixed systems, the ecosystems. Through the increased importance given to environment conditions, the meaning of ecology became broader and incorporated the notion of environment protection. It is mainly a descriptive and experimental science field and it utilises methods from other fields such as math, physiology and geology.
Ecology seeks to depict life processes, adaptation, organism diversity and distribution, material and energy flow in the environment. Biodiversity refers to the variety of organisms in an ecological complex. It is also concerned with the genetic diversity of a certain species of an ecosystem and it can be divided into vegetal biodiversity and animal biodiversity. With direct application in agriculture, biodiversity can also serve other endeavours like air and water purification, climate control, erosion prevention and even human health.
If Environmental Sciences is your passion, the specialisation Water and Environment of the Master in Biology would be a great choice. The Water and Enrironment track is the former Master in Environmental Sciences.
This programme aims to understanding how and why actors in biological production systems make certain decisions with respect to the management of these systems and to the use of natural resources.
Coastal and Marine Management is a cross-disciplinary master´s program that prepares students to engage with one of the most compelling and important subjects today: natural resource management and utilization.
During 2 years of cross-disciplinary studies the Master Student will achieve a deeper understanding of social and environmental conflicts around the world, i.e. how to analyse and intervene in a complex of interweaving social, economic and political factors.
VISIONS of what forestry should contribute to society have diversified greatly over the years and views on what is sustainable forest management are becoming increasingly complex. The role of forests and nature in safeguarding our living environment has grown in importance, resulting in a strong focus on how we can use and should manage this resource. At the same time demand for forest products such as timber, energy and recreation is also increasing.
The programme will lead to a degree in biology/management of fish and wildlife. It covers different aspects of the ecology and management of fish and wildlife, but also international laws and conventions with regard to fish and wildlife, scientific theory and methods.
The programme will provide a general understanding of the necessary conditions for sustainable forestry with minimized environmental impact on biological diversity from both a Swedish and an international perspective.
Conservation, sustainable management and policy aspects of forests and nature areas within all climatic zones (climate change, deforestation, biodiversity, ecotourism, timber production, hunting)
The MSc European Forestry provides academic education in forestry focusing on the international dimension of sustainable forest management issues.
The development of a green economy, or an economy that is environmentally sustainable, has become a political and socio-economic imperative.
The Master Programme in Biology provides you with a first-class education with considerable freedom to create your own profile. Sweden’s largest range of courses in biology and biotechnology enables you to obtain the required subject-depth and improve your personal competitiveness in the labor market. We also provide systematic communication coaching with exercises in both oral and written presentations.
The Master’s Programme in Marine Sciences offers the opportunity for you to take active part in the efforts to attain a more sustainable ocean environment. As a marine scientist, you are required to have a broad knowledge of marine conditions along with a keen eye for the whole picture and an ability to co-operate with other professionals in an interdisciplinary fashion.
