More information about the Environmental Systems Analysis Discipline

The discipline of Environmental System Analysis researches interaction and sets out to understand, describe patterns and behaviour models of different interacting entities that affect the environment and to design and optimise solutions for the issues identified in the environment.

A student of this discipline will study methods and means used to identify, asses, address and solve issues of the environment ranging from climate change and pollution to social, behavioural and policy problems.

The application of this science investigates systems and identifies the components as well as their functioning manner and scope. As a professional you can expect to adapt, modify, expand, improve or create new systems that address and solve the issues that humans are confronted with in their environment.

  • Master in Climate Studies

The MSc Climate Studies is targeted to students who wish to focus on the scientific insights in facing climate change and on social economic implications of climate change.

  • Master in Urban Studies

Urban Studies is an umbrella term, referring to academic study of cities and urban regions. The MA programme is trans-disciplinary, as its background knowledge is generated by several disciplines, eg. architecture, planning studies, art history, sociology, geography, anthropology, political science, economics and future studies.

  • Master in Environmental Pollution and Risk Assessment

The programme will provide deeper knowledge on the spread of environmental pollutants in nature, the effect they have on the environment and how they affect various forms of biological life. Risk assessments are greatly increasing in importance across the entire world.

  • Master in Agricultural Food and Environmental Policy Analysis (AFEPA)

This European Master responds to the increasing need to better understand and anticipate the various and often complex socio-economic and environmental effects of these policies, either in a functioning market economy as in the European Union or in economies in a development or transition phase.

  • Master in Sustainability Science & Policy

There is an urgent need for scholars who are trained in interdisciplinary and integrative approaches towards sustainable development, enabling them to assess and deal with the complexity involved from a system’s perspective. Furthermore, there is a need for professionals that are able to cross ‘boundaries’ between different disciplines and domains, and that can operate at the interface of science, policy and society. The new Master of Science in Sustainability Science and Policy (MSc SSP) provides an intensive programme where students will acquire knowledge and skills (competences) to deal with one of the world’s most relevant and complex questions: how can we balance ecological, economic, and social developments for our present and future well-being?

  • Master in Analytical Sciences

    University of Bradford

The MSc in Analytical Sciences course will provide a systematic training in the application of modern analytical methods. It provides the necessary practical, interpretative analytical skills to apply a wide range of analytical techniques to key areas of application.

  • Master in Environmental Modelling

Czech University of Life Sciences Prague

The MSc Environmental Modelling study programme is opened for students with a BSc degree in a relevant subject area, desiring to acquire advanced knowledge and professional skills in description of environmental processes focused on modelling of pollutant and contaminant transport in different environments, transport processes in atmosphere, soil, groundwater and surface water.

  • Master in MSc Systems Approaches to Environmental Challenges

    University of Abertay Dundee

The emphasis of this course is to provide you with the skills to tackle complex environmental problems that require interdisciplinary responses. You will be exposed to the basic principles of ecology, rigorous scientific methodology, and an understanding of how statistics, modelling and advances in technology can be used to provide novel solutions.

  • Master in Tropical Crop Management and Ecology

Czech University of Life Sciences Prague

Graduates of this programme are well equipped for subsequent studies in a relevant PhD programme and/or for employment in food industry in TS, agribusiness in TS, international environmental management agencies etc.

  • Master in Nature Conservation

Czech University of Life Sciences Prague

The MSc in Nature Conservation study programme is open for graduates from the BSc programme Applied Ecology, or BSc graduates with a background in ecology, biology and environmental sciences, desiring to acquire advanced knowledge and professional skills in nature conservation.

  • Master in Marine Environmental Management

    University of York

This course will equip graduates for careers within non-governmental conservation organisations, Government environmental, conservation or fishery agencies and environmental consultancy companies. It also provides a firm foundation from which to launch an academic career.

  • Master in Environmental Resource Assessment

    Newcastle University

Increased environmental degradation, environmental legislation and a drive towards greater environmental protection have created a demand for scientists skilled in the assessment of environmental resources and problems associated with their exploitation. This interdisciplinary programme aims to broaden the training and experience of students whose first degree is in biology, environmental science, hydrology, physical geography or a related subject. It also aims to equip you with the skills required for employment within the environmental assessment industry, or in governmental and non-governmental organisations which have statutory involvement in the environment.
