The Master's programme in Computer Science is concerned with obtaining knowledge about notions, methods, and skills connected with the operation and applications of computers.
The Computer Science programme offers eight specializations. Each specialization consists of a number of compulsory subjects, a subject on the theory of computer science, a mathematics subject, a practical assignment within your specialization, a literature survey, and a final project accompanied by a thesis. You will learn about the techniques behind computer systems, programs, and the Internet. This depends on the specialization that you have chosen. In the specialization 'Internet and Web Technology' you will for example explore what is technically feasible on the Internet and what is not, both now and in the future. In 'Technical artificial intelligence' you will learn to design intelligent computer programs. The vast majority of our students embark on a career in areas like consultancy, the software business, other private sector businesses or the government sector. Computer scientists are welcome in a variety of jobs including systems manager, information analyst, software engineer, policy advisor or project manager.
Types of teaching (in year 1):
Programme internationalization:
This programme has a workload of 120 ECTS.
International track: Global Software Engineering (GSEEM):
It further helps its students developing the skills needed to work in companies active in global software engineering. In GSEEM you can choose among three specialization profiles, each one consisting of a number of core and optional modules: * Software Architecting (SA) * Real-time Embedded Systems Engineering (RT) * Web Systems and Services Engineering (WS)
Internet and Web Technology:
Engineering plays an important part here, as do psychology and management, in relation to the controllability of large-scale multi-site software development projects, for example.
High-Performance Distributed Computing:
There is a rich variety of research topics connected with the effective utilization of multimedia, covering issues like authoring, information retrieval, human-computer interaction, software architecture, networking and 3D graphics.
Software Engineering:
To this end, you will make use of methods and tools from such areas as model checking, logic, proof checking, term rewriting systems and process algebra.
Multimedia:
The ultimate aim is to create a computer program which can reason using symbolic representations of knowledge. Another important element is knowledge discovery and data mining. This involves recognizing structures in raw data with the help of the computer. The insights that you derive in this way can enable you to extract customer profiles from a vast array of customer information, for example.
Formal Methods and Software Verification:
The curriculum is dominated by courses with a more applied character and the final project takes the form of a work placement in a professional context ± typically with a commercial company, a government agency or a non-profit organization. The Information and Communications Technology variant provides you with a broad overview of the field of ICT and a minor in at least one related area, such as Economics or Computer Law.
Technical Artificial Intelligence :
It further helps its students developing the skills needed to work in companies active in global software engineering.
