Why do people in Western countries run high risks of developing chronic diseases? The Master in Lifestyle and Chronic Disorders focuses on the background to these developments and looks for solutions.
Most people in Western industrialised countries are born healthy. Yet they run high risks of developing chronic diseases and medical disorders. The biggest threats are lifestyle factors like an unhealthy diet, lack of exercise, smoking and drinking. Unhealthy lifestyles can cause such health problems as obesity and diabetes. These not only affect the sufferer, but also those around them. Not to mention society at large, in the form of more expensive health services. The research Master's in Lifestyle and Chronic Disorders focusses on the background to these developments and looks for solutions. This master's programme trains you as a skilled scientific researcher in this field, providing the ideal pathway to a PhD programme. Research topics * Diabetes: symptoms, treatment and depression; * School-based interventions aimed at energy balance behaviour; * Therapy and the survival of patients with hereditary breast cancer; * Systematic review of previous prognostic reviews; * Communicating cardiovascular disease risk to individuals with Familial Hypercholesterolemia.
