When you specialize in Bible Translation you are confronted with difficult translation issues. But you also get the theoretical knowledge and practical skills to overcome them.
The specific characteristics of certain languages can give rise to fascinating and unforeseen translation issues. Korean, for instance, has six levels of politeness. What implications does this have when translating a particular Bible story into Korean? Which level of politeness should you use in a given situation? Biblical texts are rich in metaphors. How can we make sure that the meaning of a metaphor is communicated between cultures? When Jesus refers to Herod as a 'fox', how would you treat this in a language where 'fox' is a metaphor for a young man wooing a girl? As a student of Bible Translation, you will combine advanced knowledge of the theory and practice of Bible translation with practical skills. Together they prepare you for a career as a Bible translator, a translation advisor or an academic researcher in the field of the Bible translation. In the course of the programme, you will attend lectures and tutorials, carry out literature surveys, complete projects. You will conclude your studies by writing a Master's thesis.
