Do you wish to pursue PhD studies? The two-year Research Masters in Economics is an ideal programme if your ambitions are focused on an academic career in Economics, Econometrics or Finance.

The programme provides select, high quality education in the field of Economics and Econometrics. Not only does it teach you to carry out independent scientific research, but it also provides an excellent stepping stone to good PhD positions. The Research Master's in Economics leads to a PhD research position. As a graduate you will have mastered the latest knowledge of economic theories, empirical economics and econometric methods and you will be capable of conducting independent academic research. Obtaining a PhD is your first step on the way to a career in research at a university, a government body, a research agency or a bank. In the Netherlands the PhD research position is a paid position for three years, during which time you are expected to complete your PhD studies. Students who have completed their Master's programme at the Tinbergen Institute are given guidance in seeking a suitable PhD position at one of the TI faculties. So far every graduate with the ambition to pursue a PhD has found a suitable position. A PhD is not necessarily a direct precondition for finding a good job in the corporate sector, but it does form an excellent preparation for a business career.
