The Elite Master Program in Software Engineering is part of and supported by the Elite Network of Bavaria. The program is geared towards the top two percent of students in computer science and aims to educate an elite for the leading-edge areas of software engineering. It focuses on the following five central topics of modern software engineering: software engineering methods, formal methods and IT security, database systems, distributed systems and human-computer interaction. The integration of an individual study program, practice orientation, mentoring, and soft skills training further distinguish this program.
The education will be shaped by the following five core ranges of modern Software Engineering:
* Software Engineering
* Formal Methods and IT-Security
* Database Systems
* Distributed Systems
* Human Computer Interaction
The courses take place in Augsburg and Munich, the emphasis is in Augsburg.
Integration of an individual study program:
In arrangement with the Mentor a study program specified to the individual abilities and interests of the respective student is integrated in the education. This can include e.g. a stay abroad or research work.
Practice orientation:
The education in the planned course of studies is layed out in such a way that practice plays an important role. First of all the lectures are accompanied by exercises, which require the practical application of the concepts and techniques. Secondly the curriculum contains a long-term study accompanying practice project, which will be attended by student teams in cooperating enterprises . Beyond that respective specialists from pratice are merged directly into the teachings, in particular by guest lectures in the Elite colloqium as well as by the activity as a mentor. In addition direct contact with practice can also be part of the "Individual Study or Research" or an external master thesis.

Mentoring
Highest value is put on an individual and intensive support of the students in the context of the elite program.
During the study in the elite program each student will be supported by a mentor from science or industry. This mentor consults the student and supports him in all ranges of the program. This covers the planning of the study, the choice of courses, internships and industrial projects as well as a stay abroad and support with the planning of the later career.
Mentors are leading decision makers of the affiliated industrial partners as well as the professors of the elite program.
Soft Skills Training
The education in the elite program should enable the graduates to adopt leading positions in industry and research. The ability to work in a team, competences as a leader and knowledge in rhetorics are basic requirements for this. The elite program is accompanied by education in those soft skills. Those courses will be held in summer schools.
The following courses are presumably part of the education in the elite program:
* Corporate Culture
* Legal Aspects
* Creativity techniques
* Coworker guidance
* Presentation techniques
* Rhetorics
* English
