The programme aims to give students the factual, theoretical and methodological understanding to enable them to pursue doctoral research in a chosen area of Celtic Studies, or to handle Celtic material confidently in the context of research in another discipline or more generally.

Learning Outcomes The MSc by Research in Celtic offers those with a degree in Celtic Studies the opportunity to deepen their understanding or extend their expertise while developing their research capabilities and adding technical skills appropriate to the branch of study they are engaged in. It also enables those with a qualification in an allied or cognate discipline to extend their expertise into a selected branch of Celtic Studies.

Contents

The first half of the year involves training in research methods and learning the practical, technical and theoretical skills appropriate to the chosen research area. The second half is spent writing a supervised dissertation utilising these skills and methods. A combination of traditional and innovative methods to impart research training are used. Students are encouraged to make direct contact with original sources and to gain hands-on experience, whether reading medieval manuscripts or in handling electronically stored data.

You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test if you come from a non-English speaking country.

Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.
