Location of Dresden University of Technology

Tropical Forestry and Management is an international Master program offered at the Forest Department of the Technische Universität Dresden. It is offered in the samall town of Tharandt near dresden, where in 1811 academic forerstry teaching started.

The two-year course altogether comprises 120 credits (ECTS) structured in 3 semester attendance studies and 1 semester elaboration and defense of the Master thesis. The modules offered during second and third semester contain substantial optional proportions allowing the student to identify and follow a particular individual profile. The research plan is prepared to effectively collect and analyze primary data from late third up to early fourth semester. Elaboration and defense of the Master thesis are to complete the course.

4. Semester:

Master Thesis and Colloquium (Thesis 67%+Colloquium 33%)

Examinations:

Oral Exam=15-30 minutes

Written Exam=90-180 minutes

Seminar=max. 135 hours (M2.4)

Project Work=max. 3 weeks

Colloquium=max. 60 minutes

Grading System (Marks):

1 (very good)

2 (good)

3 (adequate)

4 (satisfactory) - passed

5 (unsatisfactory) - failed

For more subtle differentiation of exam results intermediate values shall be used through lowering or increasing the individual grades by 0.3. The grades of 0.7, 4.3, 4.7 and 5.3 should not be awarded. For the aggregate mark the MSc thesis and colloquium is scored three times.

IELTS

You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.

Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.

Requirements

Applicants must hold a university degree (at least B. Sc. or another eqivalent degree) in forestry, agriculture, horticulture, or any other related field. Moreover, applicants need proficiency in the English language (TOEFL or IELTS certificate).

Scholarships for students from developing countries are granted by DAAD. As their number is limited, opening up other sources of grants will considerably raise chances to be admitted.
When applying for a DAAD scholarship, the complete application should reach the institute not later than 30th October one year prior to the beginning of the course. If sent to DAAD, deadline is 30th September. Otherwise applications should be received at the institute before 30th August of the year the study course is to commence.

* research proposal
* school-leaving certificate and university degree certificate
* two letters of reference from senior academics (original letters or officially authenticated copies)

* English language certificate (TOEFL, IELTS)
