This programme will equip biological or veterinary sciences graduates with the practical skills and knowledge to develop careers as professional parasitologists, enhance their practical skills as a step to specialist status or prepare them for further postgraduate study leading to a career in research.
On completion, you will be able to demonstrate:
* knowledge and understanding of the biology and ecology of the main parasites of veterinary importance;
* laboratory skills in the collection, preparation and examination of a range of parasites of veterinary importance;
* knowledge of the key morphological and physiological features of parasites of veterinary importance and their identification;
* understanding of current approaches to parasite control;
* broad knowledge of current issues in veterinary parasitology and an ability to critically appraise published work;
* ability to design, undertake and interpret a research project and present it as a scientific research paper.
In weeks 1 to 25 you will take mandatory units in:
* Control of Parasites of Veterinary Importance
* Ectoparasites of Veterinary Importance
* Endoparasites of Veterinary Importance
* Numerical Skills for Veterinary Parasitology
In the second half of the year you will undertake:
* Research Proposal in Veterinary Parasitology
* Research project
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.
Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.

A good Honours degree (or international equivalent) in biological science or veterinary science. Other qualifications with a strong biological content, or extensive practical/field experience, will also be considered for non-standard entry.
Language requirements
