This programme offers you an intensive and interdisciplinary introduction to historical archaeology - the archaeology of the most recent past - from the 15th century to the present day. It includes a full introduction to European, North American and Australasian traditions of historical archaeology, as well as historical archaeologies elsewhere in the world.

It will provide you with a sound and broad (academic and practical) knowledge of the material culture of the modern period, and of current theoretical and professional issues in historical archaeology. It also provides a sound basis for a career in professional archaeology, museums or heritage management /CRM, or for further academic research.

One of the main strengths of this taught programme is that it draws upon a wide range of specialists of national and international standing from other Universities and professional organisations, who will teach the components of each unit. We feel that this allows you to experience and appreciate the diversity of contemporary historical archaeology, and to meet key academics and professionals in the field.
