This programme enables you to gain an Master of Arts in History by concentrating on one of five areas of specialization: Medieval and Early Modern History; Cultural and Intellectual History; Public History; Contemporary History; or Empires (focusing on the histories of colonialisms and their legacies). It is also possible to take a non-specialist route through the Masters course by selecting from a broad range of options.

All MAs provide a thorough training in the basic skills of historical research, drawing on Bristol's standing as a centre of excellence in all five core areas. This course is therefore suitable both for those seeking to continue their studies at Masters level and for students seeking to acquire the skills needed for further postgraduate research.
