This programme offers several pathways to the MA, allowing students to deepen their interest in and knowledge of Musicology, Composition or Performance, with the option of specialising in Medieval Music, Russian Music or Music Theory. In addition to coursework you will submit a dissertation (or Edition), or a composition portfolio or two solo recitals. All pathways will enhance your experience of creative work at a professional level and refine your technical skills in preparation for careers in composing, teaching, research or performance.
For overseas applicants for whom English is not a first language, we offer a Music Theory pathway. Please contact the Department for details.

You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.

Normally an upper second-class Honours degree (or international equivalent) in Music. For composers, examples of your music are also required.
Language requirements
An IELTS score of 6.5 in all bands, with exception of Practical Performance pathway (6.0 in all bands.) We also accept other language tests; please see our website for details.
