Applied Physics covers phenomena ranging from the infinitesimally small – subatomic particles – to the unimaginably large – the universe. The Applied Physics Master’s Programme combines elements of a standard master’s programme in engineering with more theoretical courses.
You will not only explore the mechanisms and limits of the physical world, but also gain insights into how the application of advanced physics contributes to advancements in nanotechnology, seismic exploration, robotics, medical imaging, biophysics, communications technology and energy-efficient industrial processing.
Applied physics is all about translating a deep understanding of the theoretical underpinnings of physics into concrete results to benefit society.
In the programme you will gain knowledge and hands-on experience in experimental techniques, theoretical analysis, simulation and modelling. You will work on research projects, including a master’s thesis project, together with fellow students and professionals from the university, industry and research institutes, learning to translate the abstract into the practical, and to effectively communicate your insights as an applied physicist in a global context.
The two-year MSc programme in Applied Physics is very flexible. The actual programme you follow is determined by selecting courses from one of the tracks as well as additional specialisations.
First Year
18 EC - General Physics courses and Mathematics courses, e.g.
12 EC - Courses from the following tracks:
12 EC - Ethics, society related topics and freely chosen modules
18 EC - Courses specific to one of the following specialisations:
Second Year
12 EC - Courses specific to one of the following specialisations:
48 EC - Master’s thesis
1 EC = 28 hrs study, according to the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS)
One academic year = 60 EC
Total amount of credits MSc programme = 120 EC
Tracks
There are four main research tracks in the programme, which correspond to the Physics departments at TU Delft:
Specialisations
Part of the programme is used to strengthen your knowledge and skills, either in the field of Entrepreneurship and Management, or in specialized areas of research:
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test if you come from a non-English speaking country.
