Location of The University of Edinburgh

This MSc programme, based within Psychology, provides intensive training within the specialism of human cognitive neuropsychology and also allows the student to gain expertise in research within the field. The programme is closely integrated with the newly formed Human Cognitive Neuroscience research unit.

Teaching follows an integrated approach with courses on neuropsychology, cognitive psychology, clinical neuropsychology and brain imaging. The programme also provides training in generic research methods within psychology.

Learning Outcomes Students will gain:

* specialist knowledge within the fields of human cognitive neuropsychology and integrated areas of study, in addition to training in psychological research methods;
* an understanding of clinical neuropsychology (assessment and rehabilitation of patients with neurological disorders), brain imaging, cognitive psychology, and cognitive neuropsychology and critical awareness of cognitive and neuropsychological research and its application to clinical practice;
* a foundation for advanced research within human cognitive neuropsychology;
* a comprehensive understanding of the basic principles of research design and application;
* competency in applying a range of methods and research tools;
* skills in research management, including managing data and conducting and disseminating research in ways consistent with both professional practice and the normal principles of research ethics.


Contents

Students take a combination of courses in human cognitive neuropsychology and psychological research methods. In addition to compulsory courses, students are given the opportunity to specialise within a field with a number of optional courses.

Teaching on all courses consists of both small-group work and lectures shared with other programmes.

Students will also complete a research dissertation within the field of human cognitive neuropsychology under the one-to-one supervision of a member of the HCN team or other colleague with related research expertise.

You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.

Requirements

The programme is intended for graduate psychologists or those who have studied or worked in related disciplines who wish to pursue a research-oriented career within cognitive neuropsychology or a clinically oriented career in neuropsychology. In addition to the supporting documents requested on the application form, candidates are asked to submit a personal statement.

* IELTS 6.5 (with 6.0 in each section)
* TOEFL 580 (with 55 in each section and 4.0 in TWE)
* TOEFL 237 in CBT (with 21 in each section)
* TOEFL-iBT 92 (with at least 20 in each section)
* CPE Grade B or higher
* CAE Grade A
