A primary goal of our academic program is to provide a mutual basis for different approaches to Business Intelligence (BI) in order to lay the foundations for an efficient and optimized internal collaboration. Our program has been designed for (future) executives, mangers, controllers and other specialists.Participants will develop a comprehensive understanding of Business Intelligence strategies, methods and technologies. Based on this, processes can be performed more efficiently and sound entrepreneurial decision making is supported to secure and improve the economic success of an organization. Our program reflects on state-of- the-art methods and technology and prepares participants for emerging developments of the next years in the field of BI.
This certified program will be organized at Danube University Krems (DUK) as a cooperation of the Department of Information and Knowledge Engineering (ike) and the Department for Management and Economics / Center for Finance. It has been developed in collaboration with the renowned Business Application Research Center (BARC) in Würzburg, Germany. BARC´s mission is to bring transparency into the BI software market. They offer neutral and substantiated surveys and market analyses and act, rate and consult independently and impartially of software vendors.
MBA students enrolled at the Department for Management and Economics / Center for Finance can choose our certified program as an optional specialization in BI. Hence, these participants can take this unique opportunity to widen their personal network and exchange opinions and experiences with business data processing specialists, IT experts, as well as specialists of different branches, who enroll at the Department of Information and Knowledge Engineering (ike) for this certified program. As a result, all students will profit from the synergies that arise from this cooperation across our departments.
During the last decade, capabilities to both generate and collect data and information have seen an explosive growth. Advances in business data collection (e.g., from finance, retail and production) have generated a flood of data and information.
Advances in data storage technologies with faster, higher capacity and cheaper storage devices, better database management systems and data warehousing technology have enabled us to collect "mountains" of stored data. Such volumes of data and information clearly overwhelm the traditional manual methods of data analysis such as spreadsheets, ad-hoc queries, or simple diagrams.
New methods and tools - which can intelligently and (semi-)automatically transform data into information and synthesize knowledge - are desperately needed. In the advent of these technological developments, the importance of Business Intelligence (BI) is growing. As a manager, this program allows you to develop a comprehensive perspective of business decisions and, thus, increase your organizations performance.
