Programme Description

This is a part-time in-career development specialism which runs on Fridays and Saturday mornings.

Candidates will be selected on the basis of academic achievement and professional experience.

It is important to note that this specialism is offered in two modes. Mode A is an in-career development programme for guidance counsellors who already hold an initial qualification; Mode B is offered as an initial course of training in guidance and counselling and is recognised by the Department of Education & Science.

Contents

Components Include:

  • Counselling Theory and Practice
  • Vocational Psychology and Theories of Human Development
  • Interculturalism, MCT Counselling and Racism
  • Statistics and Psychometrics

The course has a taught component and a dissertation. The duration will normally be two years part-time or one year full time.

You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test if you come from a non-English speaking country.

Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.

Requirements

Applicants are normally expected to hold a good honours degree and have at least two years experience in the field of education.

  • TOEFL: 230-computer based, 570 paper based
  • Cambridge Certificate of Advanced English: Grade C
  • Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English: Grade C
