This is an accelerated, fast-track 9 month programme, which provides a rigorous training in core skills in analytical Economics and Econometrics as well allowing some specialisation in chosen areas of the subject. It is intended for graduates whose first degree did not focus on Economics. It may be taken as an independent qualification or as a preliminary year of study before a specialist MSc programme. Progression to the MSc stage is linked to performance.
Mandatory Units
These mandatory units are taken from the School's undergraduate programmes:

* Macroeconomics 3
* Microeconomics 3
Optional Units
You must select two specialised units, from a list that is announced each year. This list includes both second- and third- year undergraduate units, and students must choose at least one third- year unit. A typical list might include:
* Current Economic Problems
* Economics of Developing Countries
* Environmental Economics
* Games and Information
* History of Economic Thought
* Incentives in Organisations
* Industrial Economics
* International Economics
* Labour Economics
* Macroeconomic Theory and Policy
* Principles of Finance
* Public Economics
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.
Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.

A first or upper second-class degree (or equivalent from an overseas university), including some Economics, Mathematics and Statistics. Those with a strong Mathematics background need not have studied Economics beyond a very basic level.
