The School of Economics, Finance and Management has an international reputation for research excellence. Faculty members in the School regularly publish in top international journals and the School is expanding following substantial recent success in research funding applications.

The MSc is an intensive one-year programme providing students with the body of knowledge and skills that are expected of a professional economist, either one who is going on to do independent research for a PhD or one who is going to work as an economist.

The programme will provide you with a sound basis for your future career not only in economics, but also in a wide range of fields including: finance, business management, public service or teaching.


Contents

First Term

Core Units
* Applied Economics
* Microeconomics
* Macroeconomics
* Quantitative Methods in Economics

Second Term

You can take:

* either Time Series Econometrics
* or Microeconomics

and:

* either Advanced Macroeconometrics
* or Advanced Microeconomics

and two further optional units. These may vary from year to year but currently include:

* Applied Public Policy Analysis
* Personnel Economics
* Public Organisations
* Topics in Development Economics

You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test if you come from a non-English speaking country.

Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.

UK first or upper second-class (or equivalent) at degree level. Equivalencies vary depending on educational system.

Language requirements

An IELTS score of 6.5 in all bands. We also accept other language tests; please see our website for details.
