In recognition of the requirements of the profession, the Master´s program Social Work, Social Policy & Management is split into four central themes which are closely aligned to the German-speaking area.
SOCIAL WORK & MICRO-INTERVENTION
The focus lies here on the broadening of competence to assess comprehensively the situation, resources and problems of clients, and on this basis to plan the helping process as well as possible, through the application of the newest methods of intervention, in particular psychosocial methods, and evaluate these.
Contents (excerpt): Diagnostics in social work, Clinical social work, Professionalisation of the advice process, Crisis intervention & crisis management, Social work in an involuntary context.
SOCIAL WORK RESEARCH
The main focus is on the acquisition of competence in research based on scientific principles. In particular, research methods to ascertain the origin, prevalence, stabilization, and change of social problems will be addressed. The knowledge thereby acquired will be applied in research projects and in the Master´s Thesis.
Contents (excerpt): Methodology & questions of cognition theory, Research methods for to ascertain the origin, prevalence, stabilization & change of social problems and the interpretation of their societal pattern, Computer-based data analysis & evaluation, Master´s Thesis seminars.
SOCIAL WORK & SOCIAL POLICY
In the context of social policy it is increasingly important to take account of the newest social work theories, in particular in terms of human rights and ethics, and to verify their application in research and practice. The central focus will be on the competence to think and act accordingly within the social context. Understanding the themes of gender and diversity, reflection on social differences such as gender, ethnicity, age and lifestyle, and recognizing the requirement for social planning in these areas, are covered.
Contents (excerpt): Theories of social work in a socio-economic context; social government, social policy & social politics; human rights & international law; social change, social planning & policy advice; gender / diversity.
SOCIAL WORK & MANAGEMENT
The leadership of social organizations requires social workers to discuss organizational models, to reflect on leadership styles and to develop leadership competence. In this context, knowledge of accounting, finance and accountability, as well as leadership and management competence, will be introduced. Furthermore, the development of organizations and project ideas will be at the forefront.
Contents (excerpt): Sponsoring & fundraising; accountability in social organizations; personal development and leadership; organizational development; legal aspects of social management; work and organizational psychology.
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test if you come from a non-English speaking country.
Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.

Graduates from a subject-related, further education social science program which lasted at least 6 semesters
Graduates who have otherwise at least 6 semesters of further education with social work and social science components who can prove a total of at least 90 ECTS credits
