The world of medical education has presented many new challenges in the last ten years, and continues to do so. Most clinicians engage in some form of teaching, whether on wards, in clinics or through other teaching opportunities with undergraduate students. However few of them have had the opportunity for professional development in teaching.
This programme seeks to aid the development of those medical educators. It combines study days, workplace based assessments, research skills training and teaching practice. The programme has a strong emphasis upon the workplace and is designed for those who have teaching roles that brings them into contact with students. It is suitable for both Drs new to medical education and training, and those with experience.
The programme has been designed for busy doctors, to enable them to learn in the context of their everyday activities. The study day attendance is not onerous but we have found that periodically meeting fellow clinicians to discuss common educational issues aids the development of individual¿s medical education skills. A prerequisite for entry to the programme is an interest in improving your own practice in medical education. The programme is part time and you can decide to pursue the PG Certificate (1 yr PT), the Diploma (2 yrs PT) or the full MSc (3 yrs PT).
Manchester is one of the leading centres in medical education and has a national and international reputation for high quality research in the field.
The programme team are experienced in education, medical and healthcare. The programme directors are Dr Don Bradley and Dr Leena Patel.
