If you work with people with learning disabilities on a basis of equality, or you wish to enter this exciting field of work, then this programme is for you. The aim is to support the development of effective and reflective practitioners in the field of inclusive practice with disabled people. The programme has particular significance with current UK and international policy, which expects consultation, participation and decision-making by service users and learners in education, in services and in policy making.
Norah Fry Research Centre is known for inclusive practice in research, and the core units of this innovative Masters programme are co-taught with people with learning disabilities (intellectual disability). All the core units will draw closely on research carried out at Norah Fry and elsewhere in the UK and internationally.
The core units in this programme are about social inclusion, emancipatory research, participation in policy-making and self-advocacy. All these issues raise profound questions about representation, competence and voice. They also raise the practical question of how to provide empowering support. The optional units will give you a chance to consider the issues of inclusion for people with learning disabilities in health, in social care and policy, and in education.
Students can take a part time route, usually completing over three years, or a full time route, completing within one year.
