The Graduate Diploma in Business and English is a pre-masters course, designed for international students (non-native speakers of English) intending to pursue postgraduate studies in business, management, finance or related studies.
It provides you with the opportunity to improve your English language proficiency and business knowledge to a level which will allow you entry onto selected postgraduate courses offered within Sheffield Hallam University and other academic institutions.
The course provides an equal balance of English language development and knowledge of business, management and finance.
On successfully completing this course, you can choose from a wide range of postgraduate courses to suit your interests and career development needs.
If you study this pre-masters graduate diploma together with one of our postgraduate courses, you will save20 per cent off the postgraduate course fee.
Associated careersThis is a pre-masters course which allows you to progress to a postgraduate course leading to many careers in management and finance.
Contents
Semester one
The first semester focuses on English language development.
The modules you study are
* general and academic English language
* business skills
* strategic management.
Semester two
Semester two builds your business knowledge with further English language development.
The modules you study are
* strategic management
* global business
* international business finance
* marketing.
IELTS
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.
Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.

This course is for you if
* you hold a qualification not classed as equivalent to a UK undergraduate degree
* your undergraduate grades are lower than the minimum needed for direct entry on to a masters course
* your English skill is less than IELTS 6.0 or TOEFL paper-based 550, or computer-based 213, or internet-based 79. These are the minimum standard for entry on to postgraduate business and finance courses.
To study this course, you must have an English language skill of at least IELTS 4.5 minimum in all skill areas or TOEFL 475, plus one from
* three year diploma in a relevant subject
* two year diploma (or equivalent) with relevant work experience
* five years professional experience
