The Chemistry Department provides graduate and undergraduate courses in basic and applied areas of Chemistry. The undergraduate program offers the B.S. degree and the graduate program leads to M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Chemistry. Current research areas are solid-state chemistry, organometallic chemistry, nuclear chemistry, molecular spectroscopy, theoretical chemistry, polymer and surface chemistry.
Laboratory facilities include teaching and modern research laboratories for nuclear, electro, solid-state and surface chemistry.
The graduate program is tailored to develop students´ research skills in order to enable them to pursue original and creative research. The current research of the faculty encompasses solid-state chemistry, organometallic chemistry, nuclear chemistry, molecular spectroscopy, theoretical chemistry, polymer and surface chemistry.
Research in progress include studies of nuclear fission, radiochemical dating studies, sorption studies of radioactive wastes, adsorption, catalysis and
mechanism of heterogeneous reactions, quantum theory of chemical reactions, few-body problems in chemistry and physics, fuel cells, nano and surface science, Theoretical design of conducting polymers, mechanism of diastereoselection in
organic reactions, protein conformations-polymer science and technology.
In addition to at least 24 credit units of course work, the M.S. degree candidate must prepare and successfully defend a thesis. The normal duration of M.S. study is 4 semesters. However, this duration may be extended for up to two more semesters subject to the approval of the Graduate Institute.
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.
Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.

Applicants are required to have a B.S. degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or a related field. Students with a B.S. degree in other areas of science and engineering may also apply. However, they are first accepted as special students and only after acquiring the necessary background in Chemistry are they admitted to the graduate program.
All applicants must submit LES (Lisansüstü E¤itimi Girifl postgraduate Education Entrance Exam) or GRE scores and proof of satisfactory knowledge of English [TOEFL CBT (213), IBT (80), PBT (550) or TWE (4.00) or IELTS (6.5) or FCE (C) or KPDS (85) or ÜDS (85)]. Evaluation of applicants is based on past academic record, reference letters and their performance in the interview given at the end of Spring Semester each year.
