Overview
Applied Mathematical Sciences offers you s a clear and relevant gateway into a successful career in business, education or scientific research. The programme arms students with the essential knowledge required by all professional mathematicians working across many disciplines. You will learn to communicate their ideas effectively to peers and others, as well as the importance of research, planning and self-motivation.
Core courses include:
* approximation of continuous systems;
* dynamical systems and applied linear algebra.
There are many options available in such subjects as:
* mathematical modelling;
* mathematical biology and medicine;
* optimization;
* PDEs;
* statistics and stochastics;
* scientific computing;
* engineering mathematics;
* management;
* software engineering.
Some of the courses include mini-projects and give training and practice in mathematical and statistical software tools, report-writing and presentation skills.
The main MSc project uses these skills and offers the opportunity to work with leading researchers to examine application based problems.
Typical projects cover a broad range of areas such as Cryptography, Host-parasitoid interaction in space and time, Models of consumer behaviour or Vortex dynamics.
