This programme offers a range of units which give you the opportunity to study the internal workings of the Union and the ever-increasing penetration of Community law into the national legal orders of the Member States.
Part One
You may study four units from the following, or three units from the following with a further unit chosen from any of the other LLM programmes, or two units from the following and two from the LLM in International Law.
* Competition Law of the EU
* Constitutional and Substantive Law of the EU
* Democracy and Legitimacy in the EU
* Environmental Law
* European Contract Law
* EU International Relations Law
* EC Trade Law
* International and European Immigration and Refugee Law
* International Commercial Litigation
* Social Policy and Social Rights in Europe
Assessment is by examinations in the summer term. Some units are also assessed via a coursework component.
Part Two
In the Spring term, you will choose a topic for a 12,000 word dissertation within the field of European Legal Studies, for approval by the School of Law. After passing Part One of the programme, you start work on your dissertation for submission by mid-September. You must pass both parts to obtain an LLM and may not proceed to Part Two until you have passed Part One.
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.
Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.

A first or upper second class Honours degree in Law or a degree with an adequate law component. Overseas students with equivalent qualifications should supply a transcript of their examination results (an official English translation if the original is in a language other than English).Language requirements
An IELTS score of 7.0, with a minimum score of 6.5 in the Reading and Writing bands. We also accept other language tests; please see our website for details.
