The aim is to provide reflective graduates who wish to progress their careers in the area of investigating, maintaining and adapting buildings with a conversion programme in the field of Building Surveying (BS) permitting entry to the built environment sector, enabling them to achieve a level of attainment equivalent to an MSc, allowing them to progress to graduate route entry to the RICS to become chartered.

The programme aims are to:

* achieve learning that contributes to the educational requirement for BS in the areas of building appraisal, adaptation, and maintenance.
* acquire knowledge and understanding of the practice and procedures of surveying and appraising buildings systematically and be able to report on their condition, pathology, potential and treatment.
develop contract and procurement skills to an acceptable standard.
* develop transferable skills appropriate to professional practice in the fields of building surveying and construction practice in the built environment profession, as reflected in the course choice exercised by students.
* provide students with the core skills and a thorough understanding of the responsibilities of the professional building surveyor capable of contributing to an organisation.

Activities designed to achieve these aims will be embedded in a programme with a multidiscipline structure giving graduates the skills to tackle building condition and performance problems in the Built Environment in the 21st Century. Graduates will be able to meet the “Graduate “entry route to the RICS, leading to chartered qualification on successful completion of the RICS Assessment of professional Competence.

The programme will also accommodate practitioners with some experience, providing flexible opportunities for students to meet the RICS entry requirements while working for a postgraduate qualification.
