Within the Civil Engineering discipline we offer a range of MSc programmes covering most aspects of model engineering practice. Subjects vary from highly specialist topics such as Structural and Foundation Engineering to general programmes such as the MSc in Civil Engineering. You can choose a subject that fulfils your own personal ambitions for your present or future employment.

If you wish to study on-campus in Edinburgh you can choose from our MScs in:

* Civil Engineering and Construction Management;
* Structural and Foundation Engineering;
* Water Resources.

All of these programmes are available on a part time or full time basis. In addition they are all available to study via distance learning.

Our portfolio of distance learning programmes also includes:

* Civil Engineering;
* Safety and Risk Management;
* Safety, Risk and Reliability Engineering.

Our years of experience in distance learning education have shown us that the best students do not always come from a standard undergraduate degree in Engineering. Hence we will consider each applicant’s CV and educational certificates on their own merits.

The MSc / Postgraduate Diploma in Civil Engineering is a distance learning only course which is designed to provide professional engineers with the opportunity to improve their qualifications and expertise while they continue with their career. Students can choose any eight courses that meet their own personal and professional needs from the list below.

Requirements

Each applicant is considered individually by the admissions tutor on the basis of their previous educational qualifications and work experience. A flexible approach to admissions has been adopted by the course team to ensure that applicants from non standard backgrounds are not prevented from entering the course if they can demonstrate that they have the experience or knowledge required to study engineering at postgraduate level.

Admission to MSc: First and Second Class Honours in Engineering, Science, Maths or other numerical discipline

Applicants who wish to study the course via independent distance learning come from a wide variety of backgrounds and are accepted onto the course with any of the qualifications listed above. However distance learning applications from candidates with extensive professional experience in the civil engineering or related industries, but who may lack formal degree level education, are also encouraged. Applicants in this situation may be asked to undertake two distance learning modules from the course structure at the discretion of the course leader and be accepted onto the postgraduate diploma if they pass both modules.
