The use of 3D data in digital design and manufacturing systems is going through a period of explosive growth. Driven by low cost computing and the development of new technologies in the areas of; shape capture, computer graphics and rapid prototyping, a range of new opportunities for using and creating 3D content are emerging.
This collaborative course between Heriot-Watt University and Edinburgh Collage of Art course aims to provide students with the theoretical and practical skills required for careers in these new technologies. In addition to computer skills the course aims to provide a thorough knowledge of the digital design and manufacturing technologies used in the creation of industrial products.
Graduates of this course will be attractive to both the 3D software development industry and commercial enterprises that use 3D data in their businesses.
Britain is a world leader in the commercial production of 3D software in applications that range from product Design and mechanical Manufacturing through to simulation. Many of these companies dominate the market in specialist areas such as: rendering, CNC program, geometric modelling, constrain solving and simulation. All struggle to find people with the correct blend of programming, mathematics and engineering knowledge.
