This full-time programme starts in September and lasts one year. The programme can also be taken part-time over 2 years or as a 9 month Postgraduate Diploma.
Overview
As mobile technology, intelligent agents, distributed applications and multimedia become ubiquitous, there is a growing demand for skilled people able to design and engineer systems with these technologies. This programme offers students the opportunity to understand the principles and acquire the skills to develop the advanced software that underpin these technologies.
The programme is flexibly designed to offer a good range of challenging courses suitable for good graduates from a wide spectrum of first degrees from those in IT to those with little academic computing content.
Full-time students take 4 courses each semester and must normally take courses in bold.

Students must have a second class honours degree, or better, in Information Technology, Science, Engineering, or a degree subject with a significant Mathematics and Computing content. Candidates holding less than a good honours degree or its equivalent but with compensating qualifications or experience may be admitted to the Postgraduate Diploma course. Transfer to the MSc will be possible later on if exam and course work are at MSc level.
English Requirements
Non-native English speakers are expected to be proficient in English equivalent to a computer based TOEFL score of at least 213, a British Council IELTS score of at least 6.0, Cambridge Proficiency C or University of Michigan ECPE. English language training courses can be taken at Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh during the summer.
