The core of the course is the stream on international accounting which consists of three modules taken over terms 1, 2 and 3. These classes seek to provide students with an international perspective to the study of accounting so that they can develop an understanding of the reasons for national differences; the tendencies towards harmonisation; and the problems of multinational companies. This is done within the context of supporting classes on accounting theory and research methodology.
Edinburgh is a city with a substantial and long-established financial sector. It is a major centre for fund management and it contains the head offices of two of Britain's largest banks. The University has good links with the financial sector.
