These courses enable students to understand the complex and dynamic nature of health promotion processes, and to relate these to underlying themes of social and health inequalities and to their own values and practices.
This course is aimed at students wishing to focus on educational aspects of health promotion delivery.
Career and progression opportunities
Participants are prepared for a career as a health promotion specialist in the NHS or other statutory, voluntary or commercial organisation.
Course structure
Students work towards a postgraduate diploma or MA. Students are given preparatory reading before beginning the course. They take Part 1 of Foundations of Health Promotion during an intensive week held in September of their year of entry. This intensive induction is revisited during the first semester. Research Methods is also normally taken during the first semester.
Students on the PGDip then take either a postgraduate certificate in Health and Social Care Education* or a choice of three education-related modules from the university's health and social science graduate programme.
Students complete the MA with a dissertation on a theme close to their focus of interest and that combines both health promotion and education aspects.
Integrated within the university's health and social science graduate programme, the course provides valuable cross-disciplinary experience through common modules shared with other courses in the scheme.
