These courses enable students to understand the complex and dynamic nature of health promotion processes, and to relate these to underlying themes of social and health inequalities and to their own values and practices.
This course is aimed at students working in a management role which is related to health promotion.
Career and progression opportunities
Participants are prepared for a career as a health promotion specialist in the NHS or other statutory, voluntary or commercial organisation.
Course structure
Students are given preparatory reading before beginning the course. They take Part 1 of Foundations of Health Promotion during an intensive week held in September of their year of entry. This intensive induction is revisited during the first semester. Research Methods is also normally taken during the first semester.
Students on the PGDip take either the postgraduate certificate in Management, run at the university's Business School, or a choice of three management-related modules from the university's health and social science graduate programme.
Students complete the MA with a dissertation on a theme close to their focus of interest that combines both helath promotion and management aspects.
