This course provides a professionally-relevant and rigorous educational experience, based on the grouped disciplines of economics and finance, quantitative methods and computing, and financial markets regulation. It develops analytical capability and awareness of professional best practice, equipping participants to deal with the challenges of new ideas and problems. The graduate certificate and diploma introduce the key disciplines relevant to this career choice in a structured programme supported by English language tuition at a high level.

Students who successfully complete part of the course may be awarded a postgraduate certificate (phases1 and 2) or postgraduate diploma (phases 1,2 and 3).

Career and progression opportunities
Course participants acquire a degree of academic and professional understanding that enables them to contribute positively to new employment. Graduates become capital markets professionals in financial institutions, regulatory agencies or consultancies.

Areas of study
The core Capital Markets modules provide a firm grounding in the theory and practice of the operations of capital markets, including the pricing, valuation and risk management of capital market instruments, as well as an economic analysis of the relationships between the institutions that comprise the financial system. The Quantitative Methods in Finance module supports the other modules, and introduces the advanced quantitative techniques increasingly used by practitioners.

Specialist options and the dissertation provide further opportunity to explore individual interests.

Requirements

If English is not your first language you will be required to have an IELTS minimum score of 6.5 overall with a 6 in the written test OR a minimum TOEFL score of 590 (paper based) or 243 (computer based) with 5 in the Test of Written English.

You should have gained a good degree in a relevant discipline (at the equivalent level to a British 2:1 or above). You should also be able to give evidence of a high level of quantitative ability.
