The Institute of Postgraduate Medicine is undergoing organisational changes, including redeveloping some of our courses. Consequently a number of our courses, including this one, are not accepting applications for 2011.
Our intention is that the redeveloped courses will begin in September 2012. Please check back in early 2012 for new course information and entry requirements.
This course is designed specifically to meet the academic needs of renal team members including first and second-year specialist registrars in renal medicine and other post-registration doctors and practitioners associated with renal care or science. The course also meets the professional development needs of a wide range of practitioners working in renal care. It provides cutting-edge renal education which enables graduates to practise at the forefront of their discipline.
Students choosing the education or management routes take the mandatory modules plus the relevant postgraduate certificate or three management modules.
Contents
Course structure
The course is designed for both part- and full-time study. Students will normally be expected to be working in a setting where renal care or service management is a significant part of day-to-day activity. Each module is taught over a five-day week. Teaching staff are nationally and internationally renowned experts and provide a broad range of learning experiences through lectures, student presentations, group work and discussion. Throughout the course, exposure to relevant clinical activity integrates acquired knowledge into the reality of clinical practice.
Modules may be taken as individual units of study for continuing professional development without having to commit to a higher award.
Areas of study
The core modules explore the pathophysiology, epidemiology and management of a range of renal conditions. Students will have the opportunity to enhance their proficiency in using current renal research to ensure life-long skills in maintaining high quality care. Optional modules offer further development in general nephrology, end stage renal failure and co-morbidity.
