Computational sciences and engineering have become an indispensable part of almost all scientific research and technological development at universities and laboratories as well as in research and development offices in the private sector. The successful completion of the Master programme Computational Sciences in Engineering (CSE) enables the graduates to find appropriate solutions for problems in the area of scientific computing and an engineering discipline.

The CSE programme gives credit to the breathtaking progress in computing which has dramatically changed the way engineers, mathematicians and computer scientists work. The technological improvement of hard- and software and the genesis of computer-based methods have opened up new possibilities and horizons for the natural sciences and engineering. In many areas computer simulations have complemented or even replaced experiments, which has led to a so far unknown quality of scientific and practical work.

Students of the Master programme are trained to solve computer-based engineering problems using their specialized knowledge. They work in international and interdisciplinary research groups speaking both English and German.

CSE enables students to perform extensive research work in the fields of Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Information Technology, Mathematics or Computer Science.

Contents

The CSE programme has a duration of 4 semesters/terms and a student has to acquire 120 credit points to graduate.

The CSE course of studies is subdivided into three levels, consisting of blocks of modules:

Basic Core Courses (BCC), with the course blocks "Foundations of Natural and Engineering Sciences" and "Foundations of Mathematics and Computer Science"

Elective Core Courses (ECC), with the course blocks "Computational Methods in Engineering Sciences" and "Applied Mathematics and Computer Science"

In-depth Courses (IDC), with the blocks "Specialization Courses" and "Specialization Project"
and the final Master's Thesis.

The programme ist taught in English in the first year, English and German are languages of instruction in the second year. For foreign students with little knowledge of German, language courses (free of charge) are offered.

IELTS

You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.

Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.

Requirements

The Master's Programme CSE addresses students from Engineering, Mathematics, and those students of Computer Science, who want to deal with the basic principles and applications of computer-aided simulation techniques in the engineering sciences in an interdisciplinary environment.

The candidates need either

* a four-year Bachelor's degree in engineering or natural sciences or an equivalent degree
* a qualified diploma from a German Fachhochschule.

Each candidate has to prove profound knowledge in the original discipline (engineering) as well as in mathematics and computer science.

CSE is a bilingual programme of study! Therefore, candidates need to prove their command of English by a TOEFL-certificate, minimum 213 points (computer-based) or 550 (paper-based).
Furthermore, foreign students are asked to prove their knowledge of the German language. If they cannot do so at the beginning of the programme, the preparatory German language course starting in the beginning of September is obligatory.

Since the programme starts every year in the middle of October, application is possible only for the winter semester. Applications can be handed in at the earliest one year in advance, i.e. from December of the previous year on. The application period starts in December and ends in February. Your application must reach us before February, 15th. Applications coming in after these dates might be considered in a special procedure, therefore students may not be admitted to CSE as early as those who have applied in time.

Application Documents

* curriculum vitae/resume
* secondary school leaving certificate/degree
* certificates of academic achievements
* two letters of recommendation by academic teachers in a sealed envelope
* transcript of degree studies
* German language certificate (if available): Grundstufe 1 or higher
* English language certificate: TOEFL-certificate
* 2 biometrical passport-photos
* copy of your passport (only foreign students)
