Why this course?
You will study three core modules, and up to five other modules. The Master's degree is 180 credits in total and is completed with a dissertation of 60 or 90 credits. You are required to engage in a number of online seminars in each module.
Career opportunities
Graduates follow a wide range of senior posts in youth work and community development work in both the statutory and voluntary sector. A Master's degree is a recommended qualification for workers to hold senior positions in recent workforce development proposals.
Teaching/assessment
The course works to build a learning community. The learning and teaching methods and strategies seek to reflect the philosophy, ethos, aims, objectives and structures of a programme of advanced academic and professional development. The methods are founded on principles of participative learning, empowerment, antioppressive practice and development.
International students come to study in the UK because the quality of our teaching is amongst the best in the world. You may find that our teaching style is very different to that in your home country and we will help you adapt. You need to be prepared to work in groups, deliver presentations, challenge and discuss ideas with your colleagues and tutors, and motivate yourself to study and research independently outside of the classroom.
Teaching is normally delivered through formal lectures, more informal seminars, tutorials, workshops, discussions and e-learning packages. Contributions to online seminars are also an attendance requirement. Continuous assessment is by a variety of practice-related module assignments designed to integrate theory and practice. Assessment is usually by written assignments of 4000 words per 15-credit module.
