The one-year programme offers five specialisations taught in Dutch and two specialisations taught in English: European Law and Public International Law.

Leiden is traditionally the city for obtaining a thorough and multifaceted training in law. As a Leiden legal scholar you will gain in-depth knowledge of law, but equally important you will learn how law is made, why it is the way it is, and what the underlying systems are. Five of the programme's specialisations are only open to students who have a fluent command of the Dutch language. The specialisations European Law and Public International Law are taught in English and are open to both Dutch and international students. European Law focuses on various areas in the field, such as Human Rights, the European internal market and the Union's external relations, both from a substantive and an institutional law perspective. Public International Law will provide you with a thorough understanding of the fundamental doctrines of public international law, and will confront you with different perspectives grounded in both theory and practice. The programme will be taught in Leiden and in The Hague, home of various international courts and tribunals.
