The University of Cumbria has been founded on a strong tradition of providing quality professional education for Allied Health Professionals. The Faculty of Health and Wellbeing has an extensive programme of pre- and post-registration courses leading up to PhD level. It has a reputation for being able to respond to changing health care needs.
In addition the Faculty is committed to the new Public Health agenda and to health improvement. There are strong partnerships with the NHS, Social Services and other agencies. The Faculty is recognised for its achievements in inter-professional education. The occupational therapy programme in advanced practice is designed to equip you with the analytical skills needed for life-long learning at Masters level.
There are exit points at PgCert (60 credits) or PgDip (120 credits). Most modules are available on a stand-alone basis although not all optional modules are timetabled to run each academic year.
What can this course lead to?
The course aims to enable occupational therapists to develop master’s level scholarship and to meet individual CPD needs as part of their lifelong learning. It also aims to enhance career and pay progression potential within Agenda for Change (DoH 2004) and the NHS Knowledge and Skills Framework (DoH 2004). All modules within the programme have been mapped to the Knowledge and Skills Framework and to the College of Occupational Therapists’ Post Qualifying Framework (2006).
The programme aims to develop your communication, analytical judgement, planning and organisational skills together with the knowledge, training and experience to enable you to develop your career and become an advanced practitioner in a variety of settings. It has both uni-professional and multi-professional modules that facilitate generic and specific advanced practitioner skills. It will allow occupational therapists to demonstrate engagement with lifelong learning and provide evidence to support career progression.
