The two-year MA Programme in Philosophy of a Specific Discipline is intended for students who are interested in the philosophical foundations and methodological aspects of a particular discipline.
The programme aims to give students a broad and deep knowledge of and insight into philosophy, a number of its branches, and their historical development. Additionally, the programme aims to give students advanced academic skills in the interpretation of texts, the analysis and solution of conceptual problems and the communication of ideas and viewpoints to specialist and general audiences. The Leiden Institute for Philosophy has strong international links with philosophy departments worldwide, resulting in an active programme of visiting scholars and lecturers. The Institute's research programme 'meets the highest international standards', according to the latest external research assessment of March 2006.

Philosophy of Law:
The focus in this specialisation lies on law as a peculiar institution in modern societies. It permeates all areas of life and guides our everyday interactions in all sorts of ways. But what is law?
Philosophy of Medical Sciences:
The specialisation focuses on a broad range of questions: both social and ethical questions within the medical profession and issues that are related to the philosophy of science.
Philosophy of Natural Sciences:
The specialisation Philosophy of Natural Sciences covers ontological, epistemological and methodological issues arising from the natural sciences.
Philosophy of Psychology:
The Philosophy of Psychology specialisation has yearly courses (seminars, tutorials and supervised reading) on key problems in the foundations of psychology and cognitive science.
Philosophy of Political Science:
The Philosophy of Political Science specialisation aims at philosophical reflection on the (foundations of the) Political and Administrative sciences as well as their application.
Philosophy of Humanities:
The specialisation Philosophy of Humanities offers students the opportunity to further studies on the interface between scholarship in the humanities and philosophy.
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test if you come from a non-English speaking country.
Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.
