Today most of the development work and implementation of new technologies are performed as projects. At the same time there is a great lack of project managers on all levels as well as lack of understanding of the most efficient way of realizing a project. This in spite of the fact that there are several standards and developed methodologies for assuring the quality and success of project realization.

The aim of the programme is to make the participants able to:

* Function as a project manager, even in large projects
* Develop the project management team
* Understand and use the tools necessary for planning and executing projects
* Design stochastic models for simulating risks processes and project execution
* Take the responsibility as a sponsor for more than one project by having proven tools for follow-ups and a management system that really works
* Develop and implement the management system that serves its purpose

Career prospects

Since the project manager´s role is a discipline of itself, a project manager on academic level will be able to get assignments in all levels and sectors of society and industry. More and more work in industry and society is carried out as projects. This means that at present and probably in the next decades the demand for skilled and well educated project managers will be very high.

Contents

The programme is based upon two standards for assuring quality and success in project management; ISO 10006 and ANSI 99 - 00 - 2000 (PMBOK). This means that, in the programme all aspects of project management will be presented the way a large group of international experts on project management and quality has intended.

Furthermore, one of the most important tools of quality and operational development, as expressed for instance in the 6 sigma movement, is statistics. One of the blocks is thus aiming at giving profound knowledge in how to use statistics and stochastic methods to understand processes and project planning.

Also recognized areas of great importance are leadership and management. Two of the blocks are covering this from two different aspects. One is covering the team leader role and the other the importance of a management system and how to successfully develop and implement that system.

Course overview
The study courses of the programme can be taken in any order independently of the others. In this way it is possible for the participants to choose to take the programme in one year full time studies or in two years in part time studies.

Degree project

Students in consultation with the supervisors will determine the content of the thesis. The important part is that the theme of the thesis complies with the content of the programme. This means that even if the area of the thesis could be anything in society it is necessary that the thesis study is concentrating at the project management needs and requirements of that area. It is also essential that the academic touch is maintained. The thesis could be performed in Sweden or in other countries.
