The course team consists of academics, industry experts, marine scientists, technologists and managers. Together, they deliver a range of taught modules (100 credits) that cover topics including: aquaculture production technologies; project management application; sustainable world aquaculture; and business enterprise in science and engineering.
Each module consists of one week’s intensive tuition at the University followed by time to complete the assignments. The programme also includes a residential field trip to Shetland, the UK’s highest value aquaculture production area, which enables you to experience the aquaculture sector and how it integrates with the fishing and tourism industries.
For the project (80 credits) you can focus on a particular aquaculture topic and, depending on your subject choice, write up your research as a business plan, research dissertation, ‘proof of concept study’ or a consultancy report.
A 12-month full-time programme, the MSc may also be taken on a part-time basis, with modules spread over one to five years. In addition individual modules may be available for Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
