The Master´s programme "Software Engineering and Management" (MSEM) is located in the Department of Software Engineering, Faculty of Computer Science of Heilbronn University. It is dedicated to qualify first-degree graduates for management and leadership activites in international software engineering domains. Our Master´s program is created in close consultation with business, industry and the professions and in response to a challenging and rapidly developing environment.
Besides subject knowledge, future professional success in software engineering depends on competences in project management, change management and strategic information managment as well as interpersonal and intercultural competences. Therefore, the Master´s programme MSEM is taking a cross-disciplinary approach which will enable you to interact appropriately and responsibly in a complex multi-dimensional environment.

At the heart of complex, multi-dimensional organisations, software engineering involves more than just the development of modern information systems. Consequently, software engineers need to move beyond the boundaries of their job-specific expertise and enhance their professional profiles by acquiring managerial and interpersonal competences. Software engineers who aim to be future business leaders should not only possess such multiple skills, but should be able to translate theoretical knowledge into business practices, engender interdisciplinary dialogues and communicate successfully in an international and intercultural environment.
The M.Sc. Software Engineering and Management has been tailored to the needs of students who are interested in interdisciplinary approaches and seek a good foundation for their future careers. It enables them to interact effectively, confidently and responsibly in increasingly complex, multidimensional work environments of software development - anywhere on the globe.

Faculty
Heilbronn University has appointed a body of notable academics who possess unique competences that derive from their qualifications and professional experience. They have all worked in industry or commerce and understand, at first hand, the challenges presented by a global business world. Moreover, most tenured lecturers are involved in (inter)national research projects.
In addition, the Master in Software Engineering and Management is executed and has been created in close consultation with business, industry and the engineering professions to ensure the employability of the prospective graduates. Cooperating companies are, inter alia, AUDI AG, Daimler AG, Bosch Engineering GmbH, Würth GmbH and SAP AG.
The M.Sc. Software Engineering and Management has been planned for a full-time study and can be obtained in three semester, so in 18 months.
The first two semesters provide a sound theoretical basis. Using case studies and working in teams not only improves analytical and problem solving capacities but familiarizes the students with methodological and creative problem-solving techniques and the relational skills which are vital for future business leaders.
As subject knowledge, the Master´s programme embrace computer science, applied software engineering, information systems in business as well as leadership, interpersonal and intercultural competences.
The third semester is dedicated to the Master’s Thesis which is accompanied by a colloquium.
Objectives
Job prosperity in software engineering not only depends on subject knowledge but also on project and change management experience. Moreover, intercultural and interpersonal competences are crucial for Software Engineers who seek to take appropriate management decisions and to act confidently and responsibly in a challenging business environment.
For this reason, the Faculty of Informatics has designed this postgraduate programme to qualify first-degree graduates for management and leadership positions in international IT organisations.
Furthermore, this course has been created in close consultation with business, industry and the engineering professions to ensure the employability of the prospective graduates. Cooperating companies are, inter alia, AUDI AG, Daimler AG, Bosch Engineering GmbH, Würth GmbH and SAP AG.
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.

Take testAn excellent or good European first degree (210 ECTS and a German average grade of 2.5 or better) or an equivalent international qualification (to judge we need the ASK certification)
* in computer science or a closely related field, or
* in another field if the applicant submits proof of academic or/and vocational experience in computer science gained over a period of at least three year
Applicants who have achieved a minimum of 180 ECTS credits may also apply; they will be requested to obtain an extra 30 ECTS credits in appropriate Bachelor programmes at Heilbronn University (in the Bachelor's programme Software Engineering).
A high level of proficiency in English (not older than two years at date of enrollment, expecting CAE) equivalent to at least:
* TOEFL paperbased version 550, or
* TOEFL computer-based version 213, or
* TOEFL internet-based version 79 (TOEFL code for Heilbronn University 2751), or
* IELTS minimum 6.0, or
* Cambridge Certificate (CAE) minimum C.
