The Master´s program "Software Engineering and Management" (MSEM) is located in the Department of Software Engineering, Faculty of Computer Science of Heilbronn University. It is dedicated to qualify first-degree graduates for management and leadership activites in international software engineering domains. Our Master´s program is created in close consultation with business, industry and the professions and in response to a challenging and rapidly developing environment.
Besides subject knowledge, future professional success in software engineering depends on competences in project management, change management and strategic information managment as well as interpersonal and intercultural competences. Therefore, the Master´s program MSEM is taking a cross-disciplinary approach which will enable you to interact appropriately and responsibly in a complex multi-dimensional environment.
Within 7 modules you are prepared for planning, managing and leading activities in international software engineering domains.
Among subject knowledge, we will qualify your methodological competence as well as your social and personal competence. We regard these cornerstones as essential in order to establish problem solving competence in a complex multi-dimensional work environment, whether it is Software Engineering related or Management related.
As subject knowledge, the MSEM embraces four major areas:
- Computer Science Skills
- Applied Software Engineering
- Information Systems in Business
- Leadership, Interpersonal and Intercultural Competences
Finally, the third and last semester is dedicated to the Master's colloquium and thesis in which the students focus on a specific topic guided by one of our professors and/or a company. The students have to consult relevant secondary literature research which demonstrates the state-of-the-art and have to find and implement a solution for the outlined problem.
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test if you come from a non-English speaking country.
Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.
More informationIn principle a Bachelor's degree in computer science or a closely-related field (in principle 210 ECTS credit points, at least 180 ECTS credit points and you will have to take extra 30 ECTS credit points) or
a Bachelor's degree in a different field (at least 210 ECTS credit points) and proven formal training or practical experience with computer science for at least three years.
Furthermore, it have to be an excellent (awarded with distinction) or good (awarded with merit) European degree (minimum 2,5) or an equivalent international qualification.
In addition we need the ASK certificate if you were awarded your first degree by a non-German university and additionally the APS certificate if you were awarded your first degree by a Chinese, Vietnamese or Mongolian university.
As the MSEM is completely taught in English you have to prove an high level of proficiency in English (Total Score TOEFL pbT >= 550, TOEFL cbT >= 213, TOEFL ibT >= 79, IELTS >= 6.0 or Cambridge Certificate CAE minimum C).
