Location of University of Erfurt

The two-year Master Programme in Religious studies at the University of Erfurt is offered with five specialisations: Islamic Studies, Jewish Studies, Ancient Religions, Latin Christinaity and Orthodox Christianity. In addition to a thorough study of the chosen specialisation, students can also attend seminars of other subjects.


Contents

The MA programme consists of five modules over three semesters and the MA thesis in the fourth semester. These include two modules in the specialisation, a module on theory and methods of religious studies and one on religious pluralism as well as an elective. Each of the modules consists of two seminars.

You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.

Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.

2. Curriculum vitae;

3. Letter of motivation (write a clear description of your study objectives including your choice of specialisation and language proficiency);

4. A BA-degree in a relevant discipline (either as a major or as a minor) such as Religious Studies, Jewish Studies, Islamic Studies, Classical Philology, Byzantine Studies, Theology, Cultural Anthropology, History, Social Sciences

5. Apart from English and preferably another modern language, reading proficiency of at least one language related to the chosen specialisation is required.
Islamic Studies: Arabic, Turkish or Urdu
Jewish Studies: Modern or ancient Hebrew
Ancient Religion: Ancient Greek or Latin
Latin Christianity: Latin
Orthodox Christianity: Ancient or modern Greek, Church Slavonic or Russian
Other languages may be accepted on demand.

6. Certified copies of: a. higher education entrance qualification (i.e. high school diploma) b. college or university degree (Bachelor, Master, Diploma, state exam, etc.)

7. The certificates should give exact information not only about achieved grades but also about study contents

8. All documents, such as official transcripts, diplomas, certificates if not issued in German or English must be translated into German or English by an official translator and certified as authentic translations by a notary public.
