The programme consists of courses in the major fields of political science (Political Theory, the Political System of Switzerland, the Political System of the EU, International Relations, Comparative Political Science, Policy Analysis, Political Sociology). While it is, thus, a general master programme during which students acquire knowledge in all these fields of political science, it nevertheless offers opportunities for some specialisation (e.g. in Swiss politics, or comparative politics).
A mandatory semester at a non-German speaking University is a particular feature of our programme. A master thesis has to be written. It is presented and discussed in a colloquium for MA candidates.
We put particular emphasis on theory-guided empirical research. Therefore, when entering the MA programme students should be well acquainted with the methods and techniques of social sciences research.
