Location of University of Geneva

In the frame of the ELSTE (Joint School of Earth and Environmental Sciences of the Geneva and Lausanne Universities), Master programs are offered in Earth Sciences in a stimulating and international environment. Mountain building, volcanism, ancient and modern sedimentological and erosional processes, geomorphology and glacial geology, genesis and exploration of hydrocarbon and ore deposits, environmental and paleoclimatic issues, and geological hazards form the core topics. A strong emphasis on field courses and on the use of our state of the art laboratories (geochemistry, geochronology, microscopy, electronic microscopy and image analyses, remote sensing, geophysics, among others) are key components of the education offered by the ELSTE.
Students with a Bachelor in Earth Sciences (or an equivalent qualification) can apply for admission. The master programs in Geology (90 ECTS) are structured with four themes:

* Sedimentary Geology,
* Structural and Alpine Geology,
* Petrology, Geochemistry, and Ore Deposits
* Environmental Geology and Geological Risks

The course structure includes: obligatory courses, optional courses, obligatory practical work, obligatory internship, obligatory thesis.

Length of programme: 4 semesters

Requirements

Candidates need to contact Pascale Dalla Piazza, ELSTE Masters coordinator, to determine which instructors might provide them with a research topic in their preferred field.

Candidates have to enroll both at the University of Geneva and the University of Lausanne.

Candidates must hold a Bachelor degree in Geology (180 ECTS) or a degree considered equivalent.
