The course of study leading to the Master of Arts in Languages and Literatures in English presupposes the ability to carry out independent academic work. It broadens students’ knowledge of theories, concepts and methods of English linguistic and literary studies and aims to improve their oral and written communication skills within the Anglophone scientific discourse. Students need to acquire a special qualification either in linguistics or in literary studies, which they can choose freely. Master of Arts (MA) in Languages and Literatures in English with special qualification in Linguistics: Choosing a focus on linguistics, students will investigate the structure and use of varieties of the English language. The history of these varieties and the socio-cultural status of English as a world language are important aspects of their studies, as well as theoretical and methodological approaches to issues in English linguistics. Master of Arts (MA) in Languages and Literatures in English with special qualification in Literary Studies: Choosing a focus on literary studies, students will extend and deepen their textual knowledge and understanding of literatures in English from the Middle Ages to the present. Studies centre on cultural, historical, political and economic issues associated with the development and the global expansion of Anglophone cultures.
