Theatre and Dance Studies are based on the research of past and present theatrical forms, relating historical and theoretical knowledge to analytical and dramaturgical questions. Emphasizing history, theory, dramaturgy and analysis of performance, in combination with practical experiences such as internships, Theatre and Dance Studies aims at improving the quality of the public discourse about theatre and dance. Studies are mainly focused on the European history of theatre and dance as well as on regional and international contemporary productions. Exploring various parts of festival culture, everyday life, art and media, a huge field of phenomena and events are taken into account to compare, problematize and qualify functions and structures of scenic acting. This MA course of studies leads to the title Master of Arts in Theatre, Dance and Film Studies University of Bern, with emphasis on either theatre or dance.
