The Creative faculty is at the foundations of what marks us as being human.
It is not a "something" one acquires, as if it were a specific set of techniques, special to a particular one of the many fields of human endeavour. Thinking of it like that denatures it, making it a commodity. Instead, Creativity is ours. No human being can truly be "uncreative" - it is the contexts one inhabits that inhibit Creativity. Just as other contexts enable it.
"Becoming creative" is not a queston of acquiring capabilities. On the contrary, it is recognising, potentiating and unleashing abilities that are one with a person's very being, making them accessible in whichever situation one may wish to operate in.
MSPC is unique. It harnesses disciplines that rarely come together. The Cognitive Sciences are revealing that our brain's motor programme, i.e. our ability for fast and precise actions, is at the foundations of learning, indeed of all that we are, including our musical and linguistic abilities. Recognising this, the course engages in a scientific and philosophical exploration of performative contexts where creativity is widely recognised and accepted as occurring freely.
It applies the tools and findings of cognitive neuroscience and cognitive psychology, the reflection of philosophy, the theories of cultural studies and ethology to study those contexts, looking into the pedagogical approaches and theories of sport and performance, investigating them as unique models so as to investigate how, in spite of (or because of?) the great stress of being observed by large numbers of beholders, the bodymind copes with the extreme tension and the highly rigorous technical demands and manages to be excitingly creative.
At a further level, it then studies how these findings can be seen to apply equally to whichever situation where the need and desire for creativity are overwhelmingly felt.
To become a Strategist of Creativity and Innovation is to be able to direct one's sharpened awarenesses and abilities towards any area of human endeavour. It means to study the Genesis of Creativity.
Above all, however, it means to be able to direct awarenesses and energy towards areas where one could most contribute to our resolving the severe problems we are inflicting on our one world - the environment, education, the social fabric, the economy, management, culture, research, human relations... these and so many other territories are crying out aloud for Creativity and Innovation.
